Thyroid serum testing is inexact and leaves patients in limbo, because physicians refuse to prescribe needed medication unless serum tests of TSH show a markedly low result.  Healthscope is now offering a test kit that is more accurate because the blood is dried on filter paper, either at the patient’s home or in the physician’s office.  The result is an indication of the hormone level present in the blood at that moment, and it is not influenced by a time or temperature delay.  Further, it is more accurate, because using this technique the lab is able to get an accurate measure of TSH, free T3 and free T4.  Usually, serum testing is done only for TSH.
