Business Week magazine recently pointed out that, statin drugs “are the best-selling medicines in history, used by more than 13 million Americans and an additional 12 million patients around the world, producing $27.8 billion in sales in 2006.”
An MD colleague told me that he is bombarded by statin propaganda. He said that pushy drug reps warn that doctors who don’t prescribe these drugs get in trouble. Indeed, he has actually received complaints from the AMA (medical authority) because he wasn’t prescribing them. The dollar amount above makes the motivation clear.
