As everyone who has read my book knows, I HATE the stuff! New evidence to bolster my opinion keeps coming out.

The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition had this to say about this heavily advertised oil that is pushed relentlessly by many health professionals:

"A recent study of about 47,000 men has found the ALA omega-3 fatty acids in flax seed oil stimulate the growth of prostate tumors in men."

Dr Joseph Mercola agrees, and writes that he got caught up in the flax seed hype ten years ago, but now advises his patients to stop taking it. As he says, "It is clear that only a very small percentage of the omega-3 in flax is converted to EPA and DHA. It is actually EPA and DHA that do the heavy lifting for cancer protection, not ALA. ... It is also important to realise that cod liver oil is the ideal source of EPA and DHA for prostate cancer prevention, as it is loaded with vitamin D, and vitamin D may be even more important that EPA and DHA in prevention of prostate cancer."

As I write in my book, Carlson's Cod Liver Oil is the only one I recommend, as it is free of contaminants. But be cautious, as cod liver oil can be hard on shonky livers.
